Planning a Group Trip to Saranda & Ksamil in 2027
Birthdays, stag and hen weekends, crews of ten. What works on the Albanian Riviera, what to book first and how to keep everyone together.
Why groups work well here
The maths is the honest answer. A local beer runs about €1.50–2.50, a full restaurant meal lands around €10–12, and party tickets start at €15–20 — so a night out on this coast costs a fraction of Mykonos or Ibiza, and travel guides consistently put Albania 40–60 % below Greece for comparable experiences. For a group of ten that difference is the whole trip budget. Add a coastline where the beach club, the boat and the club are all within fifteen kilometres, and nobody has to split off to make the numbers work.
The one thing to book first
The boat party. It has a fixed capacity, it is the single fastest seller of the week, and it is the one night a group of ten cannot half-attend: either everybody is on board or the day is broken in two. It is strictly 18+ and a physical ID is checked at boarding — a photo on a phone does not count, which is worth saying out loud to the group before anyone books flights. Everything else on the Riviera has more give: beach clubs, pool parties and club nights all absorb a group turning up together.
Keeping ten people in one place
Two practical rules save most group trips here. First, transport: Saranda and Ksamil are 15 km apart, the local bus stops running around 8pm and taxis have no official tariff, so a group ending a night in Ksamil should agree the ride back before the night starts — negotiating for ten people on the sand at midnight is how a group splits up. Second, base yourselves deliberately: staying in Saranda puts the promenade, the bars and the boat departures on your doorstep, while staying in Ksamil puts you on the beach clubs. Pick according to whether your trip is more night or more day.
Money: one pot, one payment, no arguments
The cleanest way to run a group trip to Ksamil is one buyer and one shared pot. Tickets are sold in batches and the price steps up when a batch sells out, so ten people buying separately across three days can end up on three different prices — buying the ten in one go keeps everybody on the same tier. For daily spending, agree a kitty in lek: the rate sits around 95 lek to the euro, euros are taken in tourist spots at a worse rate, and buses, beach kiosks and small places want cash. Costs that split neatly: a sunbed with umbrella for two at €10–30, a taxi between Saranda and Ksamil at €13–40 for the whole car rather than per head, Butrint at 1,000 lek each, kayaks out to the islets at about €10 an hour. Tipping runs 5–10 %. And since EU roaming does not apply here, an eSIM from around €3.50 keeps the group chat alive.
Where to base a group: Saranda or Ksamil
The honest split: sleep in Ksamil if your week is mostly beach clubs, sleep in Saranda if it is boats, bars and long dinners. Ksamil sits inside Butrint National Park with Greg Beach Club, Mulino Beach, Principotes and Poda Lounge Bar close enough to walk between — which matters after 8pm, when the local bus stops running and a group without a plan starts negotiating taxis on the sand. Saranda gives you the kilometre of promenade, the 5:30pm boat departures, Guma Bar for the morning tour and far more beds. For a crew that wants one address and zero logistics, Bougainville Bay answers most of it at once: 122 rooms plus villas and apartments, restaurants, bars, a spa with hammam, several pools and the rooftop infinity pool where we run the Thursday party, all a walk from the centre. Whichever you pick, book one building rather than three apartments across town — proximity is what keeps a group together.
Birthdays and stag or hen weekends: what to flag early
Tell us the occasion when you book, not when you land. Dates, headcount and what you are celebrating are enough for us to point you at the right night: Principotes serves front-row tables with Prosecco and turns into The Wolf of Wall Street on Saturdays from 11:30pm, champagne and all; Mulino Beach has Balinese beds and a jetty to jump off; Poda keeps premium loungers on white sand and runs from 6am to 3am. Three things worth saying out loud to the group before anyone leaves home. Everyone must be 18, and the boat party checks a physical ID at boarding — a photo on a phone gets nobody on board. White nights mean white, strictly, and the one person in colour is the one everybody notices. And the Sunset Edition has last entry at 9:30pm; after that it is €10 at the door, so a group that lingers over dinner pays for it.
